Creating a through fair of cultural exchange past and present.
This piece was commissioned to commemorate the 100 anniversary of Route 66 which began in 1925. In the hey day of Route 66 , New Mexico and Albuquerque was a sought after destination because of its unique landscape and culture. Because Albuquerque is surrounded by several Pueblos a popular souvenir became Pueblo pottery. Potters sold their works door to door at road side motels/Hotels and at the train station . As a result of this exchange , the size of the pottery began to reduce in size from the utilitarian large size to a smaller size, that was easier to transport for both artist and collector. We still see the smaller pottery made and collected today.
