Lineage is a collaboration by sisters Nani Chacon and Autumn Chacon. This multimedia installation features the recordings of the heartbeats of four generations of women: Nani’s and Autumn’s, their grandmother, their mother, and Autumn’s daughter recorded while in utero. The extended length of the speaker wire is used to compose an abstract representation of landscape, ultimately connecting each heartbeat with individual speakers. The collective paths and design motifs represent the long lineage of survival, through landscapes, cultures and histories, our that our collective ancestors endured to ensure our existence today. This work is a unique collaboration between both sisters who explore different mediums as part of their practice.
