Hermanitas

Herman Sanchez Community Center

Albuquerque, New Mexico

2021

“Hermanitas” is a meditation on the triune relationship between corn, beans, and squash - known in the southwest as “The Three Sisters”. These three plants have a symbiotic relationship in which they support each other’s growth and sustain each other as well as the people of the land. Reflectively, each young girl depicted in the mural is part of the triune culture which exists in New Mexico. Each holding one of the three sisters, the young girls represent how the various cultures of New Mexico complement each other, sustain each other, and support the growth of New Mexico now and into the future.
