She Taught Us to Weave: Manifestations of Spider Woman
Albuquerque, New Mexico
2012
The content of the work revolves around the existence of "spider woman". In Diné (Navajo) Philosophy, Spider woman is the God that taught us to weave as a form of technology to sustain us within the fourth and current world. With the teachings of this new technology, we were also taught to use the gift in balance, responsibility, and Hózhó - the utmost important component for Diné thinking. As the mural progresses, the traditional rug pattern evolves into a circuit board pattern, to symbolize how technology has taken us into the 21st century, concluding with the word Hózhó, to remind us that while our tools have changed, it is import to use them with the same responsibility .
