We've Always Found Our Way Home

Brush Factory Arts

Kingston, New York

2017

This mural was created around the theme of home, as a homage to the various Indigenous people that have passed through or lived in the Catskills region. The woman in the mural is using her hand to measure the stars, a navigation technique using the proportion of our hands as a measuring tool. Each star in this mural is a pattern from different tribes and cultures that have passed through the region. She is with a baby to signify the continuation of cultural practices, which in essence bind us to home. The plants are representations of local herbs and fauna which also implement and change the landscape as people pass through it.
